Question Touchpad - anyone else having major issues?

Please Login to Remove!

Hi guys and gals. Last weekend I said goodbye to the old 8310 curve and grabbed a 9800.

I am having all kinds of issues with the touch screen. My fingers aren't too obscenely huge, but for some reasons - even after cleaning and using the polishing "wipe" that came included - this thing acts like I'm fat-fingering or knuckle-dragging every key I try and touch. Sometimes it simply thinks I'm touching the key next door to the key I'm actually using... others it acts like I'm hitting whatever key I'm touching in addition to the first key on the left side of whatever row of keys I'm on. Changing sensitivity settings and orientation don't seem to have any type of effect, neither does changing the "style" of keyboard input.

Earlier it refused to accept that I was touching one key and would simply highlight entire blocks of texts in between dates in my messages window. Sometimes I can "double-tap" a key... wait a bit... double tap it again (holding my mouth right this time)... then proceed to finger-flick whatever I'm tapping on for a good 10 seconds before it ever decides it wants to join me in welcoming or banishing whatever email I want to/from hades.

Yet other times it seems to acquire this funny look and grin and works like a charm.

I just updated the OS to 6.0.0.246 a bit ago from whatever came OEM. I've also played around with soft-reboots, hard-reboots, battery-pulls, voodoo dolls, and santeria. I'm contemplating asking the UN to pass a resolution (non-binding of course!)

Comments or suggestions welcomed.

What you described has been my experience with any touch screen, including the iPone. That's why you have a physical keyboard.

The thing I found over time, typing on the virtual keyboard got better. Now when I type I don't even think about it. OS .246 is a big improvemet for me.

Feel absolutely the same. Pleasantly surprised at how much I now "accept" the virtual keyboard (on both the Torch and iPhone), but the physical keyboard remains my choice for typing text.

I have used for 3 days now and the touch keyboard is working better every day. I'm still primarily physical but the touch comes in handy, esp for quick notes, etc.

It's not a usual feature of a touch screen - I'm having the same problem as the OP.

When I press the P key on the touchscreen the "Q" on the other side gets highlighted at the same time and both the P and Q get typed. No matter what key gets pressed on the first row, the "Q" also gets entered.
On the second row, same problem - but this time the "A" is added

Sometimes the problem goes away after a battery pull, other times, it does not.

I'm on .246 - I've tried battery pulls, reboots, adjustments to the sensitivity, etc.

It's a known problem - see here - Re: Touchscreen Keyboard - BlackBerry Support Community Forums

I guess the next step is to upgrade the OS??

YouTube - touchscreen fail 02

Here is a video of my issue. I purposely chose the phone Dialpad since those were the largest buttons - and thus the smallest chance for fat-fingering I could find.
