Default Removing a contact from new message list not in Address Book

Please Login to Remove!

As above...

I have a contact that is not in my address book but when I create a mail, the contact is there. I have no idea where it came from and would prefer if it wasn't there.

I've tried to delete it but with no luck

I have a 9700 on a BES setup

Thanks
Cian

Ok, step by step.... You are composing an email, what do you do nex? And what exactly do you see. Do you start typing the email address in the To field and you see the contacts name in the drop down list of contacts, or what?

Open a blank E-Mail. Go to Options>General Options>Show recent contacts. Set to No. Save and close.

Hmmm. I don't see that. I don't see it when opening general options from the message folder either. Maybe a variable with the OS/model. I can't say one way or the other if I've ever noticed that setting before. EDIT: I see now the OP is on BES. That probably explains why I see different.

I open an new email, when the To: appears I start typing the name I'm looking for eg: jo for John Murphy. He is in my contacts, but a Jo Murray that I have never emailed (as far as I can remember) or is not in my address book appears too.

It's that entry I need to shift

thanks

Do you see what kellyjdrummer describes? I don't, but if you do, then give it a try. As far as I know, that drop down list is from your address book.

Do you happen to have more than one address book because of a google app or pluggin, or whatever?

I'm really at a loss to explain it.

Sorry, forgot to reply. I don't see anything except message importance

Hadn't thought of the Gmail thing, doesn't do it with any other address from Gmail but I'll have a look tonight...no access to Gmail at work

I'm also on BES - it's possible that based on the number of characters you are typing in it is doing a Lookup via BES to your (Outlook or Domino) Global Address Book.

If I compose an email and I begin typing characters in the To Line - I'll see a popup appear below where I'm typing with 3 or more entries - the first one is "Email" where it expects you to type in the email address directly - the second one is "Lookup" where, if selected, it will look up the name in your Corporate/Global address book; then the third (and more) lines are any contacts you have in your address book that match the characters keyed in.

Is this what you are seeing? Is the name on the third (or more) line?

On my torch, the "Show Recent Contacts When Composing Email" is not checked.

If you see "Jo Murray" as you mentioned, have you let it use that name - then once it's in the To Line, use the "View Contact" option to see if it finds an address book entry?

It may be associated to an existing one - or it may be a rogue one you can remove.

Good luck - keep us posted.
