Default Why no Skype?

Please Login to Remove!

So we all know that Skype isn't available for Blackberry. Verizon has a skype app that requires it to use the voice function/plan, but afaik it isn't a data app like what is available for iphone or android. What I have never heard is a reason why, not even guesses or rumours. Does anyone have any insight into this? Is this a security/tech issue, legal issue, or marketing issue? I'd really like to know!

Have you tried a search? This has been covered many times. You can also contact RIM and ask them.

If you need SKYPE and don't like the BB/Verizon implementation, then the BB is not the device for you.

Verizon made a deal with Skype for exclusivity on BlackBerrys.

Skype for BlackBerry on Verizon is VoIP. It doesn't use voice minutes. It uses data only... same as Skype for Android or iOS.

It would be nice to have Skype if you like outside the States, it sound silly if they made a deal that covers outside north america.

Not really. It makes perfect business sense actually. Skype causes carriers to lose money. They would prefer that you use their voice network so that they get revenue when you go over your minutes, make international calls or roam internationally, so if they have at least one type of device that can't have Skype or other VoIP services, they're happy.
