i am presently on os6 and it stucks my fone... while checking pictures the handheld hangs and i am tired of it! can i go back to os 5?

First, what device do you have? Your profile says 8900 but you posted in the 9700 section. I assume you have a 9700. Please update your profile.

Don't see any reason why not. Wipe your device with Jl_cmdr (see our FAQ) and then install OS 5 (see the sticky at the top of the section for your device for OS and instructions).
