Default Blackberry Tour 9630 in South Korea?

Please Login to Remove!

Just found out my future son in law is about to be deployed to South Korea along the 38th parallel . I have an unused Verizon Blackberry Tour that was unlocked by Verizon yesterday to accept any SIM card.

I am trying to get some information on it's suitability for this country but details seem hard to come by. I understand that South Korea uses a 3G network but I am having trouble trying to sort out frequencies. The BB website lists North Korea but does not list South Korea. Strange.

Does anyone know if this phone, with the appropriate SIM, can be used in this country? Any recommended SIM card providers over there?

Thanks in Advance For Any Help!

Tim

Locked or unlocked, 9630 should work ok in S.Korea. Below are a few screenshots with some more details, taken from Bell Mobility (Canada) website.

Of course, as the device is already unlocked, you can use a SIM card from a Korean vendor and pay the same rate as the locals, as long as US military personnel doesn't face some special restrictions here.

Unfortunately, it's not that simple. One can't just get a SIM card from Korean carriers. Further, BlackBerry service requires a contract, which US Military personnel cannot get. So even if a SIM card is acquired, it will only be prepaid, so the BlackBerry will only be good for voice calling and text messaging.
