Hi,

Does anybody know if the 8520 is likely to be discontinued? I see the prices are falling but I don't want to leap into buying before I am sure.

It's an entry level device. You may want to consider another BlackBerry.

Is there any one that comes with the same OS as the 8520? I like how it doesn't have the transition animations.

No. That OS is deprecated.

New devices will come with OS 7. There are a couple of entry level devices in the Curve series. Take a look at the Rumors Section.

The 8500 cannot run OS 6 that the 9300 series runs. It does not have the processor or memory to do so. Plus the OS is device specific, meaning you cannot put a 9300 OS on an 8520.

8520, slow CPU, low res screen, no GPS, no flash for camera, no 3g, low res camera

is ok for email, twitter, BBM and some apps. you will quicklly outgrow it if you want it to do more later on
