so when you use yak-on or webmessenger does it charge you as a text message or is just part of the data plan?

Getting Cingular to get it right is a challenge, but this month I finally didn't have any data changes. I don't think this is a issue on a BES or with other carriers, other than maybe Rogers, who like to charge for 3rd party apps if not set up correctly.

Anyone hear rumors on when a stand-alone Yahoo client will be available to Cingular customers? It sucks for me to have to buy an IM-consolidation solultion when all of my friends are on Yahoo only.

oneeyejack - I failed to mention the point that nb_mitch is making here. There has been much controversy recently about this topic, whether Cingular does or does not charge for data usage in addition to the Unlim Data Plan when using 3rd party apps such as IM programs. Personally, I never incured extra charges when I was not on a BES, others did incurr charges using the same settings I was using. The general thought now is that unless you are using a BES for MDS proxy access, consider yourself warned that you may indeed see charges for 3rd party software that uses data for IM and other uses. The safest bet is to either NOT use Cingular (which I actually love) or get on a BES. BES provides you with other benefits, such as full synchronization using an Exchange server - calendar, contacts, tasks and emails are all synced with your Outllok, online web access and your BB, in real time. Since I made the switch to a BES I have been in hog heaven - think about it.

You can use Google Talk to use all AIM, ICQ, Yahoo, MSN clients since it is Jabber based.
I use GTalk for Google and AIM. Free and fast, plus it stores your chats in your gmail account.
Why you would pay an annual fee or a one-time fee for any IM program is beyond me.........

We use sametime (Lotus product) in our offices and like it usually. Reqwireless I thought at one time had the BB version for this and that would be handy since 40% of comms internal is IM, 50% is teleconf and the rest face-to-face. I think that is likely the only good IM corporate client since the servers are local.. maybe that new MS thing.. watcha note info bucket thing
Now the SOX SOX crap will kill ya..

RIM has Sametime now
Ask your firm for it. Needs BES 4.1 and the client.

No, it is jabber based, meaning you can talk with anyone.

Wait... you can't use gtalk to communicate with any of the other IM services, you can use any jabber compatible program to use gtalk however.

IM+ does it all, and it's a one-time payment. Works for me.

Again... Yes, yes you can. I do it right now. It works, read the thread. Hey, you're local, I can even show you!
My 8700 GTalk allows me to talk to AIM, Yahoo, and GTalk clients all from the one program. If you want proof, PM me, you can aim me and I can post the screen shot.
Why pay for an IM program when Google Talk for Blackberrys do it all for free?

Good instructions re: miranda. However, I'm wondering if there are similar step-by-steps for Trillian, especially with the gateways.
Thanks
