Default Bell Voyageur - Laptop Tethering

Please Login to Remove!

It seems after close to a year a me trying to get tethering between my blackberry and laptop Bell has come out with software named "Voyageur". It is meant to tether a laptop and blackberry so that the internet can be used on the laptop.

I have upgraded the Blackberry OS to 4.1.

I have connected my Blackberry to my laptop via the USB cable. However, when I run Voyageur, and select RIM, 7250, I receive the error message:

"The specified port type is not available."

I have tried running the Blackberry Device Manager (which shows a successful connection) at the same time, however this does not help.

How can I connect the to the Blackberry through Voyageur successfully?

Thanks,
Jeff

We have gotten tethering to work on a 7130e without voyageur - what does it do that Dial Up Networking won't?

Can you describe how to get this going via dial up networking?

Voyaguer just pretty much configures the modem. For some reason the Bell 7250 don't work with tethering as of this point in time.

omkhar, do a search, there is a huge thread dedicated to this issue.

Hopefully I'll be able to get the flash done soon (all the stores in Calgary are saying it will be a week before it is installed). I'll let you know the results.

BTW, I never did manage to get it working with the dialup connection either. It would run diagnostics fine on the modem, but it wouldn't respond when trying to dial anything through it (following instructions on other threads).

Jeff Wickenheiser

Voyageur provides some connection monitoring tools, and an SMS portal.

@omhkar

Check out the tethering threads elsewhere here - that's what I followed. However, on our 7130s I didn't have to use a xxxxxxxxxx@blackberry.1x.bell.com and password - blank worked fine. For rogers a password was required. I didn't need a modem init string for either one. Platform was XP Service Pack 2, Desktop 4.1.1.

Also, on first use I had to fire up Desktop manager and connect but handheld manager only was fine after that.

Using xp networking connections I configured a dial up using the berry as a modem. I could never get it to connect running 4.0 but after loading 4.1 it works like a charm. I was going to use Voyageur but the website does not list support for the 7250. I only get 1X but it works!!

I am getting the same error message and BELL DATA support is useless. Search comes up with a myriad of posts but I don't have the patience to sift through hundreds of posts on multi page threads...

anyone figure out the answer to this problem ?

I'm getting the same error. I've no solution, but I must concur that Bell Data support is useless here, they had me uninstall and reinstall the Voyageur s/w and suggested I just keep trying that.

One possibility the tech thought might work would be to get into the BIOS for my machine and somehow link COM4 with the USB ports ... but that was beyond Bell's support mandate, so we didn't go there.
