This is really becoming frustrating as a Bell customer - does anyone on the inside have info on this? The OS is out - as a previous poster pointed out, it can't really require special hardware - just a usb cable to flash the 7250

So has anyone had luck (experience) with flashing a 7250 as previously stated ? What software do they use at Bell ?

I guess the big question though is if it is just a O/S upgrade and the PRL update, or if there is more to it?

We are waiting for the same from Telus.

Selected Bell stores will receive the upgrade kit prior to May 5th. You must download the 4.1 from the business on the go web site prior to visiting the store. An echo will be going out explaining the procedures to the stores this week.

Just for your information, i dont know if it's the same for you, but as a normal user, with the free email and internet service, i DO NOT get free tethering. The Bell guy says its 6$/mb wich is probably a real joke!! Do you guys get it included??

Will you be able to tell us which stores once the echo goes out?

When i bought mine, 1 week ago it was already with the new OS.. but i upgraded 2 of my friends, go on businessonthego.ca/7250 their will be a link upper right corner to download the new 4.1 bell OS. you also need the desktop manager to upload the new os. you may need to do that after the may 5th, when they release the whole new thing... the version already their is working very well, im not sure if it support evdo tho, because its not yet supported in my area

make sure your not doing this trought a usb hub, it will not work!!

their is plenty of info on this forum on how to do it step by step, good luck

Finally got it in store! I'm testing it now. It does require Bell 4.1 software (version 303) to be downloaded and loaded to the device first. The whole process will take only 5 sec.

Honestly now, would it have been SO difficult for you to have just cut and pasteed this from an earlier post:

Quote:
For the 7250 to operate on the EvDO networks there are two components required:

1) an upgrade to OS 4.1; this cannot be completed OTA.

2) a PRL update. While it is possible to update the PRL of a BlackBerry OTA, Bell Mobility does not have this function provisioned on the network side (unless something has changed very recently).

There are some Bell Mobility and Bell World stores that will be setup with the facilities to perform the required upgrades. There is also a possibility (and this is purely supposition) that Bell Mobility will allow existing RIM users to swap their existing 7250s for refurbished units loaded with OS 4.1 under the warranty exchange program.

kind of on topic, slightly off topic...
Anyone else notice drastic memory loss after the upgrade?
I'm having to reboot every day, it seems.
I start out with about 7mb remaining with just the basics open...
then with google talk, blackberry messenger, opera browser, blackberry browser all running, Newsclip with about 80 items, and after a couple calls, and viewing e-mails, it drops down to less than a mb.
Since upgrading, I didn't restore all my e-mails, so, it's not those eating everything up, and I haven't made too many additions to calendar/address book.
it just slows down hard core, and I have to reboot.
Never had this problem with 4.0.
Something I'm missing?

Any word on manually updating the PRL? I am a Sprint customer and their OTA process is not working for me a bunch of others. I figure if bell made the interface software available I could simply load the sprint PRL and be off to the races.

Any word on what the deal is?

It is a manual process but has Bell PRL(31012) in it. You may need to ask Sprint to see if they can send you the flash program.

A small update ... not really new information, but, we received document at the store level today briefing us on how the PRL updates will be done:

Quote:
Stores will be provided with a flashing “tool kit” which will contain:
- The 4.1 desktop software and flashing tool
- Step-by-step instructions on how to install and use the flashing tool
- A USB cable

Process in store? Store rep will need to:
1) Download and install the 4.1 desktop software
2) Download and install the flashing tool
3) Verify the customer has upgraded to 4.1
4) Flash the device (~30 seconds)
5) Re-program phone number
6) Update price plan or feature code
My assumption is that if we're being given this document at the store level now, the "tool kit" should not be far behind.
