Outlook at home doesn't sync email to the BB (I'm using BIS for this). I sync calendar, notes and tasks at home.
Outlook at work uses the Desktop Redirector (we don't have BES) to sync email, contacts, tasks, calendar, and notes.
By setting it up this way, if I enter info (contact, calendar, etc) in any of the three places, it eventually is sync'd up with the others. Setting it up this way also allows me to send from the BB (8700c) from either email address. Because BIS and the Desktop Redirector are treated as separate, I have the ability to send from two different email addresses...from an 8700c.
This may also work with BES, but I don't have a way to test it.

I'm doing almost the same thing, except at work it is Lotus Notes and it is via BES (wireless). Syncing Contacts, Calendar, and Tasks between all three. Only issue is - you must turn off the wireless sync on the BB before syncing with wired connection to home PC; also have problems with Contacts edited on the home PC in Outlook (they get overwritten with the Lotus Notes Contacts once the wireless sync is turned back on).
