Has anyone tried the new High Capacity BlackBerry Lithium Ion Replacement Battery on the 7290 to see how much it helps. The battery life on this thing is horrible. I have tried all blackberry's out there and found the 7290 and nextel version about the same on battery life.

Actually my initial impression that its life is shorter than the regular one. I will do some more comparisons though!

I find the regular battery that comes with the 7290 horrible. When the phone was brand new, the battery lasted like a champ. 3 days min.....however after 2 weeks....it now only lasts 1.5 days max. Not sure what happened.

Did you load BBToday? I have read that some people are having battery issues with it. My 7290 just lasted 3 full days will heavy use. It is about 2 months old.

When an official BlackBerryOS4 caomes out for the 7290, you should install it. I heard it uses slightly less power than 3.8 because of slightly better performance --

As for battery, make sure you don't fully discharge your BlackBerry too often. Lithium batteries love to be "topped off" (like a car battery, a lithium battery can get damaged if you drain it completely too often -- totally different from an old-style NiCad rechargeable which preferred a full cycle).

Usually, I cycle my BlackBerry down to only 40-50% most of the time. And a full discharge only about once every two weeks.

However, on the first use, it's beneficial to give it about 3 to 5 full cycles, to "break in" the battery. Don't stop charging when you see the battery bar reaches 5 notches, trickle charge it for at least many hours beyond the time the lightning bolt dissappears or 5-bar battery. That makes a difference.

we now have 2 of the 7290's and am trying to do some battery comparison test.. I do noticed that my old 7290 take 3 time longer to boot up and the new 7290 battery last 3 times longer. I am now loading all my old stuff back on the new 7290 to see how long the battery last with same usage.

Great post Mark. Treating, and recharging, my BB batteries as I do my everyday use car batteries, makes it very easy for me to understand and remember how to keep this vital function of my system working well -- Don't worry about overcharging the battery so long as it doesn't get too hot, don't let it drain all the way, or even close to it if possible, because it harms the battery and might leave you stranded, and keep your battery fresh by recharging it frequently (on the road again).

Is there a command to change the Battery bars to numbers? Similar to the ALT-NMLL command for the signal bars.

okay new update. Just put a new extended battery in my blackberry. Will compare life with same style blackberry but stock battery.
