I can't get it working either. I have an unlocked 8700c on TMo.
The app seemed to install fine: "Google Talk for BlackBerry devices has been loaded to your device".
When I try to run it I get an error "Handheld does not have the required service books."

Couldn't work out how to edit my previous post...

A few hours after posting above, Google Talk started working fine on my 8700 - without me making any further changes to the bb. So I guess when I post here things will get fixed. Magic.
Once a Skype client comes along (please...) I'll ditch GoogleTalk.

Ok, so if I have T-Mobile and use Google Talk....am I being charged for SMS messages, or is this covered in my regular data plan?

I was getting the Service Books error too. Odly, like MickD's experiance, after a couple of hours and a couple of connect tries it just started working. Strange...

I cannot get Googletalk to work at all.
I cant figure out how to get the service books installed.
I have installed OTA and via USB
Time is set correctly
I am using BES and I looked in the IT policy, and the bottom 2 (allow google and allow IM) are set to default (e.g. blank=true)
4.1 BB 8700 and BES 4.0
I can surf the internet
I can use Yahoo IM
I am in the US and have a @gmail.com account (not a googlemail.com account)
