If you have the security set to enter password and the phone locked it will disable caller id.

I've seen phones where if you have duplicate entries in your address book, it won't show the caller name. I don't know if this is true for Blackberry as well.

If you have it entered in your book as 222-5555 but the call shows it coming from 13332225555 or vice versa then that is why the name is not showing up

I don't have any problem with that as long as the number is coming from my home area code. I have many numbers in my address book without the area code but the phone recognizes it because they have the same area code as me.

So, if the phone is locked, then you won't be able to view any caller ID?
That does make sense, but at the same time, it's dumb. There should have been some sort of option to turn that feature on and off.

Is there any software that handles this problem?
My other question is for everybody.

It;s about the incoming number format.
If I receive someon calling me from 12012222222 and I have that number listed in bb as 2012222222, then would I receive a caller ID or not?

If this is the case, then as long as I can match the incoming number format, I can get caller ID, right?

You can have the keyboard locked and have caller id, if you check your security options and have the password disabled your phone will recognize incoming calls with the keyboard locked or unlocked, if you enable the password and the keyboard is locked your phone will only show the number, unlocked, caller id! Try it.

I have all of my phone numbers listed at (222) 222-2222 and I have never not had the BB correctly display the person's name. Based on the caller ID from work and home, I do know that different numbers come in as 2222222222 and 12222222222, but my BB is smart enough to figure things out.

International numbers are a completely different beast. I still can't figure them out. Spent two hours the other day trying to call London.

it will show the first contact that you have made.
for example, you create a contact called "dad:1234567890"
then two days later you create "poppa:1234567890".....when that number calls, it will show up as dad.

I think BB should have an option to show or not to show caller ID regardless whether the phone is locked or not. I lock my phone to protect my infomation stored in BB. If I unlock the phone and just do keyboard lock, then my BB security is compromised. Anyone pick up the phone can have access and they can simply change the sim card and make my BB their own.

What I gather from various comment is that, if I want to see caller ID with names, then I should save the incoming number as the identifying number for the caller ID. I will give that a try.
Thanks everyone.

I have keyboard lock and password. I also store all my contacts in (XXX) XXX-XXXX format. I just called my BB using my other cellphone and I do have caller ID. Perhaps we are thinking different "keyboard lock" and "password"?

First you probably need to have international dialing turned on, if it is a corporate phone. Second put a "+" before the country code, in London's case "44", then the number. Should dial fine.

I just checked and my "Content Protection" is set on "Enabled". Also I must apologize because today when I lock my keypad the caller ID doesn't work show names anymore.
