You can scroll the trackwheel, press the silent button on top, or remove it from the holster. Keep in mind that none of these methods will keep it silent. It will ring again after a second or two unless you answer or reject the call. Please search in the future, this has been asked and answered several times in here. The best thing to do is when you know you will be in a situation where you need the ringer to not draw attention to itself is to place the device on vibrate or silent mode, then switch back when you are out of that situation.

True, but I didn't know how deep his pockets are. There is also the pull from holster and throw out the window method. And the more popular smash your fist into it while still on your hip method. And my personal favorite, press the silent button, let it ring again, press the silent button, let it ring again, remember that only works for a single ring, start to sweat because you're in a meeting, struggle with removing the device from the holster, face turns red, finally get it out, press the answer button by mistake, hang up on whatever important call you just recieved, compose yourself quickly, forget to switch profiles, put it back in holster, person you hung up on calls back method. Gotta love it...

There isn't. Read my first response to your question. This is something that is commonly viewed as a flaw in the BlackBerry realm. All of us would like to be able to silent a ringer with a simple touch, but we just can't yet. Get used to switching profiles proficiently, it's a must-have skill.

Drop a line to [email address] and tell the boys how much you are enjoying not having this ability on your telephone.

Profiles are those things behind the painted thingy in your avatar.

USE ZEN for easy profile switching if you don't use my hang up method first.

I have found that setting all profiles to Vibrate+Tone buys me precious time in meetings...

I think I see what he's asking though. On my last 2 BB models I could spin the wheel and the ringer would stop. On my 8700 that feature isn't the same.
