Default Bars to db?

Please Login to Remove!

I read in the other blackberry forum you can change the bars to your db strength, is there anyway to do that on the 8100?

You can... I always have it set to db. Alt NMLL (on the 8100 you'll have to press the N twice though).

Wonderful, now another question, how does that work... is there a long list of commands that I could do with shortcuts like that?

Thats awesome! Is there a theme that doesn't cover the bottom of the db reading like Dimension Today Plus? And how do you go back to the standard bar view?

The Alt-NMLL appears to be a toggle between the bars and the dB reading.

Works with the Vodafone Today theme. That said, and pardon my ignorance, but what does the dB reading number represent?

What exactly does that number mean anyway? Your signal strength is measured in units of dBm, which means decibels relative to 1 milliwatt. The GSM/GPRS radio inside your BlackBerry has a range of between–40 dBm at the highest and–120 dBm at the lowest (when you display the signal strength as a number, the BlackBerry doesn't show the minus sign). Your device will display a certain number of bars given the current dBm value. Table 1-7 shows the ranges of values that correspond to the number of bars that are displayed.
