I have a 8703e - I was wondering if there is an option so that I have a personal signature at the end of my SMS? Thanks... By the way I'm new to BlackBerry and I'm loving it! Typing this whole message on it! FUN!

Since SMS messages can be a maximum of 160 characters (spaces included) a signature would be a pretty bad idea...

Don't think this is automatically possible (as in emails) my friend but is possible if you type "sig" at the end of you SMS message.

SMS as far as I am aware can be longer than 160 as the BB just splits the message into two messages

SMS is now 1000 char. Easiest way as indicated in the thread is to create an autotext. I did and use it all the time.

Verizon in the US doesn't let you go past 160 characters. They don't even let you split up the messages. If someone on a GSM carrier sends you a message that has been split in 2 or 3 etc. you'll only get the first one. This has been my experience, but others may (and probably will) chime in.

Perhaps it is limited to 160 characters for CDMA carriers because that limit is the same on Sprint as well.

The 1000 characters is EMS (enhanced message service). I think it's phone specific. Similar to MMS but allows for longer messages. My kids use it on their phones or at least that's what they say. They can go up to 1000.

It actually doesn't matter if you can compose 160 characters ot 1000. The person who receive the msg would be receiving multiple sms which each contains only 160 characters. If you compose a 320 characters long msg, the person who receive will get 2 sms. If they don't have an unlimited txt plan, they will hate you forever because you waste their sms quota or money. On my Cingular 8700c (GSM network), I have 918 characters. Perhaps the 160 limit is on CMDA networks???
