Default The pearl or SE m600i?

Please Login to Remove!

First time posting here, so please excuse the newb questions if I ask any

I currently have a razr..and Im not loving it anymore. Im deciding between the pearl and the Sony erisson m600i. Been doing research to see which is better for me, but I still cant decide.

Has anyone been in the same situation as me on these two phones? Or have any comments towards any of them that could aid in my choice? Any comments welcome, Thanks!

I had M600 for 2 months. Now I have had the pearl for over a month.

I switched from M600 for a few reasons.

1. Slowness. M600's interface is very slow.
2. Touchscreen. I don't like using two hands for operating a phone. Sometimes wth M600 it was impossible to use just one hand.
3. Size and weight. Eventhough they seem very similar in size the Pearl is in everyday use much easier to handle.
4. Keyboard. The rocking keys in M600 are ok, but definitely the Pearl's keyboard is much easier to use.

I hoped that there would be a lot of programs for M600, but it seems that there are not. That's why I switcheed from M600 and am much happier with the Pearl than the SE.

Augh!! Stay away from the M600i. I had it for about 3 weeks and dumped it because of many of the reasons cited above. To elaborate:
1. the slowness of the menus is intolerable, as is the launching of programs. If you want to read an email it takes 4-5 seconds for the email to open.
2. Touchscreen - ditto
3. not sure yet because I haven't gotten my pearl
4. The keyboard, to me, was difficult to use. Heres something that really ticked me off. If you're making a call, lets say to cingular customer support, and you have to dial through different menus... You can't turn the volume up or down until you delete all of the numbers dialed on the screen. Very irritating. Also If you turn off predictive text, when you type emails the keys default to the number, or alt, setting. Very annoying.
5. And since I don't have a pearl I cant compare multimedia on the SE to the Pearl, but I can say that any video clip over a few minutes locks up the phone, requiring a battery pull.

I've used both.. i was very split between the pearl and the m600 even after using them both for a while..

1) Yes the m600i is alot slower, but the latest flash is a little better
2) If you don't care about getting the screen dirty then hands down the navigation on the m600 wins for me. Once you get used to it, its very fast to move between different programs.
3) m600i is alot 'bigger'. Its volume that counts - on paper a few mm in 2 directions translates to alot more volume and you really feel it when you use it in real life. Overall its not a bad size, but the BB seems ALOT smaller in reality.
4) The rocking keys are a bit wierd to get used to, but once you do i find them faster to type on than the pearl. However if you have big fingers then its not for you.
5) The m600 has a more conventional 320x240 screen, while the pearl has only 240x240. The media player is also alot more functional than the pathetic effort RIM made with the pearl. Maybe the early OS's locked up while playing media but the one i used was fine.

There are still alot of problems with the sw in general but they are being ironed out pretty quickly since SE bought UIQ3. You can expect it to be updated very often since all of their new 'smartphones' will be using it.

As for programs, there are ALOT more programs for UIQ3 than there are for the BB Pearl, even tho UIQ3 is very new. Also the rate of release of programs for UIQ3 is alot higher than the rate of release of BB programs.
You'll also find UIQ3 programs (and those for other phones) won't cost you an arm and a leg like nearly all BB programs do.

The biggest problem with the m600i is that its simply underpowered to ro run UIQ properly. That's the main reason why i didn't keep it. That said i'm only using the BB because it was a free upgrade - its by no means perfect either.

I'm sure being a BB forum alot of people will disagree but that's just my opinion.
