Yes by going to the menu when composing and selecting add recipient.

Not sure if there is a limit to how many people you can send it to, but if you start a text to one person you can then go in the menu and add another person to send it to. I do this sometimes but only to about 2 or 3 people. I don't know if you could add 49 people.

In messages click Menu/Compose SMS Text->than choose the contact and click the trackball-> click Menu/Add Recipient

this is the only way i know. I think at one time you can add 10 to 15 recipients.

Create a group in your address list and then send the SMS to the group rather than type out a dozen at only 10 recipients per message.

1 Create the "Mass SMS" group:
Address Book ->
Menu ->
New Group ->
Name <mass group> ->
Menu ->
Add Member ->
Click on who you want to add from your Address Book.

2 Create and send the SMS:
Address Book ->
Highlight <mass group> ->
Menu ->
SMS Text <mass group> ->
Type your message. ->
Menu ->
Send.

You can text however many people are in the group. This works well for sending out a "Merry Christmas" SMS to more than 10 folks

If you have T-mobile, you better have unlimited text messaging added to your plan or have a plan that combines voice, data, and unlimited text messaging. If you need the links, ask me.

Doesn't this only work for email and not SMS?

Why would I have said it worked for SMS if it didn't work for SMS?

Anyway - I SMSed everyone on my Address Book who has a mobile (thus capable of receiving an SMS) on Christmas morning. I did it step by step and typed out the instructions in this thread to help others make use of the ability. If you don't wanna do it, don't do it

It would not work on a BlackBerry running OS version 4.1 or earlier.

Lots of stuff likely doesn't work on Windows 98 that works on Windows 2000 or XP though

I have 4.2.0.69 and the above is not something I read about. but are instructions that I figured out how to do and took the time to type out what I did (after I had actually done it to test them first).

If it doesn't work for you because you have an outdated OS then I offer my sincerest apologies. Do not say that what I typed is for "Email" not "SMS" though because that indicates that one of us is lying or typed the wrong thing. I tested my directions and several others used the directions I typed out without any problem so I know what I typed was not a mistake or a lie.

He wasn't the one that said it was for email. He was just responding to your post on why someone might believe that it wouldn't work. Check who the comments came from before you rip into someone.

I put a smiley face - Not quite a "rip into"
Sorry if it came off as such.
