Default Calendar help :-(

Please Login to Remove!

PLEASE help me. If I wasn't bald, I would be pulling my hair out. I have searched for months, and found no acceptable answer. I am in sales. So, I work on an appointment basis. For some reason, my Blackberry wont play nice with Outlook. I would switch to Palm Desktop. But, that doesn't sync with the Blackberry. Here is the problem: the times of my appointments keep changing.

My laptop is set to GMT-5, eastern time. Outlook and my 8700 are also set that way. Everything is set to NOT adjust for daylight savings time. Intellisync is NOT set to update the time on my 8700. So, why is it that if I create an appointment on the 8700, the times change when I sync?

Please understand, I do travel in different time zones. But, when I set an appointment in San Diego or Boston for 3pm, I know what time it is when I get there. I don't need the appointment and reminder being off by an hour. I don't need my 'all day' events moving to 11pm, and covering 2 days. I don't need a system that I have to keep checking and correcting.

I need a real solution. If there isn't one, then I may have to go back to the Treo or PPC. I love my Blackberry. But, right now, it's costing me money...

I have tried Gcal Sync. I have tried offsetting the time on my 8700. I have tried every suggestion found in the posts. They both caused more trouble. I need a REAL and stable solution. Any ideas?

I don't follow your explanation of what you are doing. If you make a calendar entry for 3:00PM in your BB calendar (that is, it displays as 3:00PM when you view it), are you saying it shows at a different time in Outlook when you sync?

I bet the BB is sensing network time and causing events to adjust.

I've always had my BB's set to network time. My PC automatically adjusts its clock to a time server. Never had a problem and don't see how it could be a problem. If an appoiontment is listed in the BB and OL calendars at different times, that's one thing. If they are at the same time before sync and different after, that's a mystery to me.

Default let me clarify

The 3pm appointment was just an example.

1) I have set my 8700 to update via Blackberry, via the network, and to 'off' at various times. The problem remains.

2) My computer is NOT set to update it's clock automatically.

3) This does not happen all the time. I generally don't notice until I run across something at first glance. Then I have to scroll through the next 12 months and double-check everything.

4) The problem seems to be more persistent with recurring appointments. A class I take every Tuesday at 7:30, and Boston Legal at 10, for example, keep moving either an hour ahead or an hour behind.

5) All day events (like birthdays) somehow wind up moving an hour ahead or behind. This causes them to span 2 days. At that point it's up to my Ginko-deficient memory to remember where the event belongs. That has not been pretty...

I am about to upgrade to the Cingular handheld OS. Maybe that will fix something.

berry-bum, if I follow, you are not, for instance, changing the time zone on your BB and then later syncing with OL. You are not changing the time zone in OL. In fact you create an appointment for 3:00PM in LA as 3:00PM in your BB regardless of whatever the time zone setting on you BB (GMT -5), and you don't change the time zone on you BB. What is happening is the appointments on you BB and OL are accurate until one day you discover they are not. Is that what is happening? It beats the heck out of me. I will offer this, for what it is worth: The other day I was printing mail labels and I noticed a number of labels didn't have zip codes. I checked my BB contacts and, yes, the addresses had zip codes. I looked at the addresses in OL using the address card view, and the addresses had zip codes. I looked at the addresses in OL using the spreadsheet view, and the zip codes for those addresses were in the country column and the zip code cells were empty. Last time I printed mail labels it was ok. What happened? Beats the heck out of me.

P.S. I naturally blame Windows and Outlook, and not RIM.

I am beginning to hate all things Microsoft... Every program of theirs is buggy. I would switch to Palm, if there was a way to sync it. I may try Outlook 2007 before I junk it all and get a Treo.

Of course, whatever meets your needs. Though I can't see you moving to more reliability going that direction. Hopefully others can advise from experiance. I avoided palm based on the experiance of others, and stopped using WinCE several gerations ago.

Palm and PPC have addressed most of their reliability issues. Personally, I would rather reset once a day than have appointments disappear or reschedule themselves. I own 2 Palms and 2 PPC. Since I can get the blackberry client on the new Treos, I have no problem going back. I want to stay with the Blackberry. But it HAS to do what I need it to do. The only reason I bought my first one (I also own 2 Blackberrys) is that T-Mo didn't have any idea when they would get the Treo 650. Anyway...

Does anyone know of a way to sync the Palm desktop with a blackberry? Does anyone know how to fix the calendar issues? I don't even want to talk about daylight savings time!
