Linux Client
Please Login to Remove!
Does anyone know of any Linux app out there that you could use to backup your Blackberry? I would imagine that there isn't a client yet that you could use like the Desktop Redirector. But, does anyone know of anything out there, or have heard of one that's coming?
Thanks.

I second this...
I am thinking of getting a BlackBerry via Verizon.
I use Fedora Core 3. I assume there is no desktop PIM/Email manager for Fedora or linux in general?
What about the 'internet service' could I manager my calendar, contacts, and email from a website and have that info sync with my BB ?
Thanks

I think this need a good bump...
I use Yellow Dog Linux 2.3 on a Mac Powerbook G3, and would LOVE to sync my BB to it!
Haven't been able to find a program, though.... Oh well, patience is a virtue with these things, unless I stumble on it myself.

If anyone can figure out how to mount a Blackberry as a filesystem, I'll try to come up with a sync GUI for Kontact. Not having any Linux drivers at all is a serious crime to humanity.

Uh, no, its not. Its their decision to do whatever. Its not illegal to not support Linux.

I'd like to see Linux support in the fashion of PocketMac, at least -- Basically, the PocketMac people have figured out how to synchronize to a BlackBerry to a Mac, so if they can do that, then this can be done for Linux.

My point was that its not a "crime against humanity" or whatever.
I'd like to see a linux client too, but Im not going to die without it.

That's a swell idea... Wish I'd thought of it... I'll try it tonight when I get home, and report back tomorrow.

Well - I tried to compile and install wine from binaries, but it looks as though I may have to tweak it a bit - got a few errors. I'll keep everyone updated as I make progress.

Java SDK
I'm new to this, but wondering about similar issues.
Has anyone looked into using the Java SDK to enable this?
Seems like one would need Win2K/XP to develop , but maybe a standard IF could be stuck onto the BB that would let any OS communicate with the device.
Thoughts?

Take a look at Sync4j. I haven't used it myself, but it looks interesting....

It looks like Sync4j doesn't sync tasks on the BB. Let me know if you find out I'm wrong.

Assuming that PocketMac is released under some sort of OSI approved license Blackberry support will find its way into Linux once someone industrious enough takes the time to port the code.
