Question Handheld is Locked

Please Login to Remove!

Hello,

When my Blackberry Pearl is locked, i.e "Handheld is locked", if I touch the trackball, three options appear:

Unlock / Emergency Call / Cancel

Unlock does not actually unlock the phone! It just just displays "Keypad is locked".

Surely this is broken?

Is this a problem with just Vodafone UK, versions or is this a standard 8100 issue?

Best regards

Jonathan

The device has a password set. If you don't have the password, you'll need to enter the incorrect password 10 times. On the 10th attempt the device will wipe after which you'll be able to set a new password, and then go to Options --> Security Options --> General Options and turn off the password requirement.

If you're on an Enterprise (BES) setup that requires a password by IT Policy, you won't be allowed to turn off the password requirement - period.

If you're NOT on a BES, you can remove the password requirement (apply a blank IT Policy) by following the directions at:
Unlocking the Blackberry

Hello,

It never asks for a password.

I'm at the stage where I've just held the asterisk key down for a moment. This locks the keypad. To unlock I press asterisk and call. This works as documented.

I've never password locked the phone and I'm not on a enterprise setup.

Best regards

Jonathan

Don't understand your question....

If it works as documented, what is the question?
Do you want to add a password, and lock your phone like that?

BBChristopher,

I think you are misunderstanding the original question (which also occurs on my Pearl). I dont have a password applied to my pearl. When I lock the handheld using the * key, then try to unlock it by pressing the pearl, it gives the three options Unlock / Emergency Call / Cancel . If you select UNLOCK, it doesnt actually unlock the phone...you still have to hit greenkey-*. Seems like a bug/flaw, since selecting unlock has always unlocked my older bberry models.

Here is a thread that explains it....in fact, someone just bumped it this evening. It's an older thread but still valid.

Hello,

Clearly this is a known issue with the OS and fingers crossed it will get fixed in the next firmware release.

I'm quite happy to unlock the phone with the two button combination, I'd just be happier if the menu option was removed. Not sure how RIMs testing department missed that!

Should be 5 minute job for a OS developer to remove the option.

Cheers

Jonathan

Don't hold your breath. It's been like that since day 1 and I've not heard anything about it being addressed in future updates. Use the post above and make the suggestion to RIM.
