I used azmmza (unlock8800.com - highly recommended) to unlock my 8800. Worked perfectly with T-Mobile SIM. Also worked with my old ATT (Cing. blue) SIM BUT with the ATT SIM, Cingular does not push Blackberry Internet Browser service book, so I had no BBerry Internet browser. Couldn't live with that, so I upgraded my account to Cingular (thanks to Stinsonddog for his note).
Short version - the unlocked 8800 works on T-mobile just fine.

Wirelessly posted (BlackBerry8800/4.2.1 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/102)

I got my 8800 unlocked and just went to a T-Mobile dealer and they gave me a regular T-Mobile SIM and it works perfectly

The only Blackberrys that need a sim card inserted to perform the unlocking steps are the 87xx series

For all other Blackberrys you dont need a sim inserted

Also contrary to popular belief once you are in the sim card menu on the 8700 / 8800 you just need to hold down the Alt key as you type in MEPE to bring up the box to enter the unlock code

You can get the phone unlocked from the carrier at no charge, but I am assuming you have an account with Cingular.

I use a T-Mobile SIM in my Cingular 8800. Cingular unlocked it for free.
