It's a separate service you subscribe to through a third party host. Examples include
MailStreet and
ExchangeMyMail. I use MailStreet and have never had any problems at all. Their customer support is excellent but the good thing is that I haven't even had to use them in a very long time; and the last time I did have to call them it was my fault not theirs. Others swear by EMM.
You're looking at about $12.95 for the base MS Exchange account, plus an additional $9.95 for the BES add-on service.
And, by the way, I have no trouble syncing my wife's BB with MS Office 2007. Running Vista and Desktop Manager 4.2 SP1. But it also worked prior to upgrading to SP1.
