Default IT Policy does not allow internal connections

Please Login to Remove!

I have a quick question. How do I set up a policy to allow the Blackberry devices to run internet applications without allowing them to connect to internal resources?

If I disable Internal Connections, the users can still browse the internet, but a number of add-on applications no longer function (TeleNav, Google Maps, Blackbook, etc..). But our security policy is that no outside connections are allowed to out Intranet or any other recources.

If the BB user the MDS browser, then they are essentially inside users at that point. the connection is protected by the BB encryption and the entry point can be protected by a password on the BB.

I know it's not exactly the answer you asked for, but maybe it helps.

Not sure why the add ons would stop.

That is some good info. I didn't realize that the MDS browser did that.

But my problem isn't really the browsing, it is with other applications on the handhelds. Things like TeleNav, and Google Maps for example. If I close internal connections, these programs cease to function.

If I remove the BES from the handheld, and use BIS - then the programs function correctly.

How would I allow these programs to work, but still block internal connections?

Thanks,

On the devices in question, if you go into Options -> Advanced Options -> Browser, what is set as the default browser? If it's the MDS browser, that may explain part of your problem.

Nope - it's set as Internet Browser...
