Any physicians using BlkBry and Mac?
Please Login to Remove!
I will begin my medical residency next week and I'm in need of a new PDA/Phone. I've given great consideration to the BlkBry but I'm still not sure the compatability issues have been totally worked through.
1. Is there anyone using Blkbry + Mac + Pepid program? How is the compatability?
2. Which BlkBry is best? Newer = Better?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I am a neurologist using a BB Curve. For drug databases, I use Lexi Drugs instead. The app can be installed OTA so you don't have to worry about being unable to load software with a Mac on your BB. I use PocketMac to sync my PIM info (contacts, datebook, tasks, notes) with Entourage.
I love my Macbook.

Ophthalmologist with Curve and Pepid. Pepid loads to sd disc. Lightening fast. Used MCS health before not as fast and not as thorough. Pepid is OTA. Highly recommend.

ED doc with 8830, iMac, MissingSync and Pepid. Couldn't be happier!
10 year Palm user. I spent the last two years with constant resets on my Treo 650. I stuck it out because of the medical apps available fo rthe Palm. When I found out that Pepid was available for the BB, I ordered my BB the next day.
I also highly recommend Clinical Medical Consult (clinicalmedconsult.com). It is a very comprehensive yet easy to use reference. I use the Mobipocket reader to view it on my BB

Now I need to decide b/w PocketMac and Missing Sync. Based on the previous replies, it would seem that you can use both. Does one program work better than the other?
I plan on purchasing the 8830 and using my MacBook if that matters to anyone.
Thanks,
JJ

Pepid, 8100, macbook pro, and missing sync here. I personally wouldn't bother with pocketmac, way too many issues. I think there are more unsuccessful users than successful. Missing Sync is worth the $$ or if you're using an intel mac just install Fusion (or boot camp) and run Windows + BB Desktop manager. I keep a copy of windows in fusion to load apps when I need to, but otherwise Missing Sync does all my bb duties on my mac.

I'm using a 2GHz Intel Core Duo MacBook. I have downloaded Boot Camp but have yet to track down a free version of XP to use. Missing Sync? I'll give it a try. Thanks. ANy other opinions welcome.

Ok, so now I'm having trouble with Pepid. I'm attempting to download OTA and the BB is telling me it can't recognize the SIM card.
Any suggestions? I noticed someone said PEPID would load to SD disk, which is what I was trying to accomplish. What do I do?

The 8830 does not come with a SIM card unless you sign up for the global service. For a reason unknown to me and Pepid cust service, Pepid checks for a SIM card when it installs OTA. I spoke with my cust serv rep at Verizon and told her I would be returning the 8830 if I couldn't use Pepid. She said she would send a SIM card to me and activate it on a pay as you go plan. That way, if I don't travel overseas, I don't have to spend an extra $20/month for the Global Service.

I like LexiDrugs because it has a small footprint (memory-wise) in my BB. BUT, you will need to have data service available to use it (you type in the drug and then it gives you the data from their severs). If epocrates will come up with a BB version AND memory card support, I will switch to it. But for the last 2 years, I have written emails to epocrates hoping that they will consider making their software BB-friendly, but they just have no interest for medical folks using the BB. I am glad the makers of Lexi and Pepid made theirs available for us BB-users.

I've been in contact with PEPID several times over the last couple days in order to help them resolve the SIM card issue. In short, try to download OTA now. It should work just fine w/o the SIM card.

I don't think you can download OTA without a SIM card. Do you mean the microSD card?

I think he is using an 8830 which is CDMA except out of US when it defaults to a GSM (sim requiring) locked to vodaphone. Then a sim could be a possible requirement.

That's what I've been in contact with them about (SIM).
They have resolved the issue after many emails troubleshooting the problem.
They had to update the software version. I downloaded flawlessly lastnight OTA. Give it a try.
Make sure to uninstall the old version first.
