Default Voice on Data only plan

Please Login to Remove!

I am looking at getting a data only plan on one of the UK networks (o2, vodafone, t-mobile). If I opt for a data only plan will the number for my phone still allow incomming calls?

I believe that T-Mobile (in the US) offers that; a monthly fee for data, and a per minute voice plan. Check with the carriers directly.

I have a BB 7290 with AT&T. I have only a data plan on my BB. You are given a phone number with the data plan. Every once in a while the phone will ring. On AT&T, you can make outgoing calls and receive incoming calls.

All responding posts are correct... you have a pay per use voice plan however I beleive it's at least 45cents a min not including LD and Roaming. But yes you still have voice on a data only plan. It would work the same if it were the other way around. Most regular phones are used only to make calls but it has the ability to be used for data and it's charged separately.

Thanks for all the replies.

I have tried calling o2 and vodafone but they have no idea! Is anyone able to confirm this on any of the UK networks?

Hi,

I don't have the answer to the question, but I have quite recently got a 7290.

I had a good look around the main providers EG o2 Vodafone T-Mobile. The data allowance with the packages really varied.

From memory for the same £sss per month
o2 5mb (about £1 for every mb over this)
vodafone 6mb
t-mobile 50mb (about £7 for every mb over this)

t-mobile really sting you if you go over the 50mb per month, but I can't see this happening.

I ended up with a small voice contract and added the 50mb per month on top.

I would base your decision on the data allowance rather than the incoming call issue???

In the US nextel also has voice on the data plan. However if you go online you can block both incoming and outgoing calls.

Chappers - Think we have been looking at the same stuff. I noticed the data for t-mobile was much higher (50mb) over the 5mb on o2 and 6mb on vodafone. The pricing does vary a bit with 11.50 for 02, vodafone at 15 and tmobile at 17 though. If I have to add on a 15 a voice plan that is quite a bit extra...

How have you found t-mobile in the uk coverage wise? I know they never used to be very good about 5 years ago but a lot has changed since then! I also have now found out that t-mobile do include voice calls on their cheapest plan - http://www.t-mobile.co.uk/pdf/files/...ilPlan0205.pdf

Hi ijg0

So far I have found the coverage really good. Was in a meeting in Milton Keynes yesterday afternoon where the signal was patchy in the meeting room, but I think that was the same for everyone.

I am based in Berkshire but do a far amount of meetings out and about and have had no real issues with the signal.

From memory, when you buy a voiceplan from t-mobile, then add the instant email on top, the price of instant email drops to £10.

TMobile US has voice with the data only plan but you have to tell them you want it. It is $.20 per minute and comes with voicemail. Before actually adding a voice plan, I used it as a virtual pager. You can have your outgoing voicemail message say to send a page press 1 now. Resulting numeric pages are sent as SMS.
