Default Does Viigo kill your battery?

Please Login to Remove!

I have Viigo set to download every 4 hours automatically...but even when it is not running I feel it sucks the life out of my battery. Does anyone else notice this?

Do anyone have any recommendations for better RSS readers?

Thanks

I like Berry Bloglines which does not affect the power. Regardless, you aksed about Viigo.
Consider, doing a manual update when accessing the program. Performing updates while you are not viewing offers little value.

I don't notice Viigo using any more power at all. It's certainly WAY less than leaving Bluetooth on.

I haven't noticed this, the various IM clients and Bluetooth suck the power but not Viigo. -Pk

Afraid I can't help either, I exit Viigo completely (and all others) after using them, I don't like stuff - other than JiveTalk ;) - running in the background.

Trying to say what is 'better' is such a subjective thing, I'll instead say that recently I have been running Freerange and Viigo side-by-side (more like head to head?). They're both just about equal in features with Freerange coming out a little ahead in some places, Viigo in others.

I've pretty much switched to using Freerange all the time because it's UI is a bit more intuitive (the reading of a mini article then a full article by a simple trackball-click, for example) and it's a lot snappier in the UI -- Viigo has sort of a lag after you push the buttons and stuff. I've gotten good responses from both support teams, but if I had to make a choice I'd say the Freerange team is a bit more responsive (but this isn't a strike against Viigo).

The one big thing though that solidifies Freerange for me -- Viigo doesn't have/support line wrapping in article headlines list view, whereas Freerange does; on this meager 8100 screen width (240px) that's a very important feature to have. $0.02 USD.

I find that Viigo does not significantly impact my battery life. Since I installed it on my 8800 I have seen less than a 5% extra drain on my battery each day. Most of the drain seems to be me reading the articles with the screen on...

Exactly....Viigo itself doesnt drain the battery..its the reading of the articles(same as any other web browsing).

Just running Viigo in the background, i have no seen any significant decrease in battery life. (and i update every 30 mins).

A follow-up on this from our end: we do extensive battery testing on every release to ensure we're not the cause of battery drain issues. More frequent auto-updating will have minimal additional battery impact, because its ultimately the same amount of content you're pulling whether its every two hours or every four hours.

gibber9583 is correct... if you use Viigo a lot (which turns on the screen, etc.) then your battery will be affected, but this is the same with any app (games, browser, phone, etc.).

Thanks for the feedback,

Thanks for the feedback,
do you recommend using BIS or TCP?

Thanks
