Is there a speed test I can run from my blackberry browser? I tried dslreports and it doesnt work? I do not want to tether and get speeds that way...Just curious if there was a way to run a speedtest this way...
Speed tests aren't that accurate on a cell phone because there are too many variables which affect the speed. Some of these are the connection itself, device processor, device memory, distance to the tower and tower congestion. Also, voice has the priority over data.
On EVDO, you should average 400-800 kbps with a max of 1.2 mbps up to 3.1 mbps under Rev A.
On EDGE, you should average 50-90 kbps on unmodified towers and 50-125 kbps on modified ones with a max of 236 on unmodified and about 300 kbps on modified. 3G theoretically averages between 2.0 and 3.0 mbps.
