I got a BB 8100 a few days ago, and since yesterday it is stuck on "data connection refused" on the homescreen where it usually says "t-mobile" or "searching for network". Now I know my home is in a bad coverage area, is this just what my device is supposed to display due to poor coverage? When I first got the phone I got EDGE and edge, now all I get is edge or nothing at all under the two signal bars.

your problem is that you dont have a data plan but the OP seems to have a data plan and getting it.

Also, I did downgrade from the BES plan to the BIS plan, could that be the culprit, t-mobile is reconfiguring my account on their end? I made the change online and it said the change could take 24 to take affect.

Yes, that could definitely be part of the issue. T-Mo will have to disconnect you from BES, then reconnect you to BIS, so temporarily it will look like you have no Data Plan.

Try doing a battery pull to see if that resolves the issue. If it doesn't call tech support.

Did the battery pull severl times to no avail, even took the SIM out and back in, even turned the radio off and on, lastly in the network section of options, I turned the data to off and then back on, all to no help.

I am back up and running, checked my account and it had the blackbery international email plan instead of the BIS plan, so I changed it and am back in business
