Hi, I'm new to the blackberry, I have the blackberry curve and I was just wondering if you can help me with a few things.

Is it free to send PIN messages?
What exactly are they?
What software do you recommend?
What are the advantages of the BES?
What is the BIS?
Are there any patches that you recommend?

PIN messaging is covered by the BlackBerry data plan that is added to your account, so there shouldn't be any additional charges for them. They are basically BlackBerry to BlackBerry messages.

Some of the software (free) titles that I recommend are Opera Mini, Beyond411, and Google Maps.

Welcome to the BB world. There are lots of posts in this forum that will suggest to you 3rd party software for a wide range of uses. To get you started, here are some that I use:

A quick google search should find these on the web.

I don't use PIN messaging, but I do use JiveTalk to do instant messaging a lot - though it does drain the battery faster than without it. Also, I am in a small organization, so I don't use any of the enterprise services...so I can't really comment on them....
