Red face Deactivation of BB service

Please Login to Remove!

I was checking out the SE P910i from my colleague and we decided to switch devices for a week. (We were using BES 4.0 and I a 7100v user).

One strange thing happened: When I switched the SIM card from the BB Connect device (SE P910) back to my 7100v and vice versa for the colleague, the BB service failed to work on both devices. After checking with our IT administrator, found out that the BB service was deactivated on both SIMs!!! Strange...

So, we called up our service provider to reactivate the SIMs again. And we got it working again.

Anybody knows what's going on...

I'm based in Singapore, using the BES 4.0 service from SingTel operator.

You still haven't said which services. If you switch SIMs between a BlackBerry and a BBConnect device, it will deactivate any associated BWC mailbox.

If you put a SIM in a device and that SIM & Device combination aren't already known to the BlackBerry network AND your carrier has a rule in place that says "Stop all traffic for unknown devices" then what you're seeing is the correct behaviour. cxxxkies' is probably working because the SIM has been in his test devices before and, therefore, is already known to the BB network so wouldn't be subjected to the carriers activation policy.

This only applies to BWC/BIS because I'm using this service only. You've to be sure that the BB device which you insert your SIM card is already free from BB connection either by the previous owner who uses the device or by the operator. Normally the operator will only seek permission from the previous owner as he's the last user.

If the previous owner has got onto another device, you can also connect to BB service without problem.

However if both are onto BB service, there is no way any party will be able to connect unless like in this case some administrator could have cancel them and you revaildate again with the operator. This is always the case for BB devices using BWC/BIS config.

Was the BES Server told to reassign the devices?
