Question Resetting the Lost Passwords

Please Login to Remove!

I've searched through the forum and maybe I'm just missing it. We will start enforcing passwords for all devices. I am currently testing scenarios before implementing.
Scenario:
If I set the ITPolicy to require passwords, then a user calls in that they forgot their password, is there a way to reset the password OTA from the BES?

I have tested with my device. From the BES, I have only found that by choosing Set Password and Lock from the IT Admin options. This will send an OTA password to the device but the user must first input their current password to accept the new incoming OTA.

Is there a way to push a new password to a device without needing the old password first?

Running BES 3.6
Thank you.

I couldn't find a way.

But possibly create an IT policy to specifically DISABLE passwords, apply it to the device and then assign your default policy back to the device. Maybe that will clear the password in disabling it.

Thanks bfrye for the suggestion. I attempted that scenario today without success. If I find a way, I'll post it up.

This is a major problem - I can't believe there isn't a way to reset a password from the BES.

If you check under security I think you must have Content Protection on, which Content Protection it puts the device into the next level of security I think. If you turn it off and give the device some time to undo the Content Protection, you should be able to send a new unlock password and all the user has to do is accept it. We do it all the time.

I disabled content protection, ensured that I was running the "default" IT policy, popped the battery and restarted. I am still prompted to enter my current password before accepting the new one. Obviously, the user wouldn't know their current password and therefore couldn't get their password reset.

Any other suggestions?

I'm not sure but maybe it'll take a while for the content protection to "wear off", do you have another device to try it with? I've only encountered this problem with one device and it's because content protection was on. Maybe you can start from scratch with a device with no data on it, run it for a while making sure content protection stays off, then try resetting the password. It's definitely at the device end that's not allowing the reset.

Default Data protection

I ended up wiping my device, and re-activating after turning off data protection. That got rid of the prompt for the old password.
