Default GPS on AT&T 8820

Please Login to Remove!

Hmm don't know about 8800 but bb maps isn't there I added it myself but when I try to start gps it says looking for satellites and then fails. Can't modify any of the GPS settings so everything I read is true they did disable GPS for 3rd party apps don't want telenav but if I don't mod it then that's all I get.

Hmm that's strange their are threads and other sites saying AT&T will only offer GPS with their telenav prod and will be disabled to 3rd party apps. Even BB on the download link for BB maps says it will not work with AT&T. Now why would they say that?

Well we got Wifi... you want unlocked GPS too??

j/k, but if this the case, and the GPS is in fact locked to Telenav, does anyone know if this is a mod-able isse?

Yeah, I read that yesterday. That's why I was a little skeptical / shocked to read the post in this forum. Maybe just an issue with this specific handset.

The last news that was posted everywhere said that the GPS on the 8820 was NOT locked down and the original fears were unfounded. Could someone verify this when they get their unit?

Default RE - Wifi

They could have left out the Wifi and included 3G access. The ATT edge network has gone to crap.

The GPS issue is critical. If they are going to block the use of GPS, I am not buying it!!!!

What's holding me back is my fear that RIM and ATT will come out with a 9xxx version in November to hit the Christmas shelves, that has all the bells and whistles of the 8830, AND be 3G compatible.

my current 8800 offers it for free, hassle free. I will not pay extra for a new 8820 and $10/month for a feature that I enjoy using when I needed it. I understand what you could be saying, but since the 8800 offers it, so should the 8820.... We give you WIFI, but we take free GPS>.. then who knows what they will take away when they offer 3G :p

Excellent. Be sure to post back with first impressions... and if the GPS issue is real.
