I synced all my outlook contacts to my curve. In address book options I have the display set to "first name". Now, when I go to the address book and type D for Deborah (for example) I get nothing. I then have to use the trackball to manually find the contact. I never had this issue with my pearl or my old 8700.

I already did the reset and I even wiped the handheld and reloaded everything but still have the problem.

Anyone else?

In you Address Book and in Outlook, do you actually have the first name entered into the first name field?
If you do, I don't know what the glitch could be.

Yes i just checked and everything in outlook is entered in the proper field.
Weird because this is the same computer (outlook program) i synced my pearl/8700 with.

maybe it's my phone.

I'm sorry for bumping this thread but I thought i'd try and get more feedback before i return the curve. Obviously with the lack of responses it must just be my device.
We all know there is a calendar sync issue but maybe there is also address book search problem too.

Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but I too am having this problem with the 8300. I have imported contacts from Outlook (via two different contact groups) and have them all in the Blackberry. They are sorted by first name. If I press "a" and then continue to type in the person's name (eg. anthony) it will find the person. Any other letter ("b" or later) replies no contacts.

I have tried adjusting the sort order, importing less contacts, even a wipe data, but still have this problem.

Anyone else experience this, or fixed this problem?

mine either...when i type a letter (for example D), at the very top it says "Find: D" and then below it, it displays all names that start with D.

I just switched over from a 8300 to 8310 and I'm seeing this issue now...anyone else?

Looks like a sync issue on new 8310 OS.

OS is 4.2.2.163 (Platform 2.5.0.24)

If I manually go into every contact on the device and re-save, it looks like it brings up the entry using the first name.

yep I am having this problem to, but I don't sync to outlook, I sync with SyncJE to a scheduleworld server. I am having the same problem though. What can we do to fix it?

i just checked mine after seeing this post...

I do not have any issues on my 8310... i did realize that if you have the names broken down into their respective fields... ie first name in "First Name"... and if i do a search for "S"... it pulls up anyone's whose First OR Last name begins with "S"... not sure if that helps anyone...

I have this partial problem on my Tmo 8320. When I type a letter in "find" it will work w/ some letters and not others. If I'm looking for "Sarah", typing S, nothing, typing Sa, nothing, typing Sar will give me the contact for Sarah. The other letter it doesn't work on I've noticed so far is "D". I seem to remember it working when I got the phone 2 weeks ago.

Have you tried removing the battery and reinserting?
