Default Seido Adapter + Headphones + Music = Voice Dial Activates?

Please Login to Remove!

Tried searching this extensively in both Media Center Forum and General 8800.

I just received my Seido 2.5mm to 3.5mm audio headphone adapter. When I have it plugged into my phone with headphones plugged in the voice dial prompt comes up asking for a command when I start playing music via BBs Media Player. It pauses the music, asks for a command, I click escape... back to music and the process repeats. Extremely annoying. Any ideas? Couldn't find anything where voice commands could be disabled.

Do you have the adaptor that has the microphone on it or just the adaptor itself ?

Didnt solve it. Very weird. If I spin the cable around in the barrel of the phone's connector the audio cuts in and out... and the voice dial app will pop up.

Thought this was going to be a known issue. Guess I'll wait for Seido tech support response... possibly a defective adapter (loose contact or something...).

Well, I ordered (haven't received yet) the version with the microphone.

The problem sounds like the connectors inside the BB are not aligning properly with the contacts of the plug - and it is "shorting" something together (that is falsely giving a signal to the BB to start the voice dial app).

I remember when I had a plain old cellphone that when I stuck a paperclip into the headset jack (just playing around), it caused certain functions to engage. I can't remember exactly what it did, but obviously the paperclip made a connection(s) in the jack that engaged a phone function that would normally be done via a switch on the headset itself.

I sure hope when mine arrives it does not exhibit the same bad behavior !

Wirelessly posted (BlackBerry8820/4.2.2 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/102)

Yeah, the issue is definitely the headphone adapter's plug shorting out the contacts in the phone's plug. The reply from Seido tech support confirmed this and said to, and I quote, "insert the adapter into the phone quickly, as if you do it slowly it would trigger the voice command because the pins short together."

Seems shotty at best to me. I did try it this morning and when I did connect it to the phone the voice command did come up. After I escaped out it didn't return. I listened to a whole CD (radiohead-in rainbows fyi) and didn't have an issue. I kept the phone stationary on my desk. Not sure what's going to happen when I attempt to listen to music while working out. May just end up buying some bb specific headphones in the near future.

Hope your experience is better.
