My dad just got the verizon bb 8830 a few days ago and is jealous of the colorpearl program for the 8100, is there any type of colorpearl software for the 8830?

the 8300,8800 series all lack the colored LEDs that the 8100 series has. that is why you cannot have the color pearl program on those models

The Pearl has multiple LEDs under the trackball, the 8800 series phones only have one white LED, thus there is no way to control the color via software. Some folks have taken the trackball out and colored the LED with a felt tip pen, but then it will still be only one color.

I assumed that once it existed for the Pearl, it would exist for all trackball devices

Sharpies work. My 8830 trackball shows blue. Sometimes low tech works just fine.

Are your thumbs blue? Does it come off the ball?

I thought I saw someplace online that showed how to take it apart and what sharpie markers you can use to color it, but not worth it imo..

You can pop the trackball out very easily. If you want specific details search this forum for "Cleaning Trackball".

No, my fingers are not blue, you color the led not the trackball. It does wear off over time, but as I mentioned it is very easy to pop out the ball and color the led again.

Normally I just pop out the trackball, press the enter key and put my finger over the repeat notification led area. This turns the light on for the trackball, once I have relocated this led I color it.
