You should have searched the Forum because my thread on trackball disassembly has the pics you needed.

Here's a stupid question... Is there a certain way you have to put the trackball assembly back in? Or does it matter? The part on the back of the assembly that touches the mother board.

There is a metal contact on the bottom of the trackball assembly. The hinge point or flex point of that metal contact faces toward the bottom of the BB.

Stick your fingernail in the top part of the outer ring.

Step 2:
http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...0Pearl/BB3.jpg
Pry the ring out lightly with your finger nail.

Step 3:
http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...0Pearl/BB4.jpg
http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...0Pearl/BB5.jpg
Pry out the 2nd ring VERY lightly, as the 2nd ring is very thin and easy to bend.

Step 4:
http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...0Pearl/BB6.jpg
http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...0Pearl/BB7.jpg
Take out the base of the trackball, again by prying it out with your finger nail.

Step 5:
http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...0Pearl/BB8.jpg
Use rubbing alcohol and a Q-Tip and DON'T soak the Q-Tip with the alcohol, jut have a little bit on the swab and let the cotton swab roll around the trackball to remove any excess dirt and make ur ball cleaner ! Then use the opposite side to dry it of course....

Step 6:
Do the same thing you did when you took it apart, and you may want to use a lead pencil to get the 2nd ring into its place because there is a small slot to get it in... If you want pictures on how to get the trackball together, just ask !!

What happened to the pictures that were at the top of this thread? It may just be me, but they're not there.

If you open up your blackberry the waranty will be lost, the best think you can do is clean the trackball with some alcohol and a toothbrush, water of spit is bad and can damage the electric components. Sorry for my english! I will work on that!

You don't need to open up the BB to remove the trackball. It will not void the warrenty and there is no way to tell it has been removed. If you use liquid to clean the trackball while it's in the phone you run the risk of frying it unless you are very cautious.

What a friend of mine did with his 8100...helped him out w/out having to disassemble:

1. Make sure the BB is off (he removed the battery).

2. Hold the BB upside down, so the trackball is towards the ground.

3. Dip a Q-tip into some rubbing alcohol...get it dampened but not soaking

4. Use the Q-tip to roll the trackball in all directions

Re-dip the Q-tip or change it for a new one as needed.

Lay the BB face down on a cloth to dry for a couple of minutes...the small amount of alcohol likely isn't an issue, but just to be careful.

He did this on his older 8100 and said it improved trackball response...might be worth trying if anyone's daunted about the disassembly.

Spiffy, first please edit out the unnecessary language.

Then, check your photobucket account and see if the pics are still there.
