Nope, the 3G is a hardware issue. You'll likely see it later next year on the 9000 series.

The only AT&T model with WiFi today is the 8820. There is no WiFi on the 8300 (or 8310) to "unlock" via a software update.

If you want a Curve with WiFi to use on AT&T you could pick up a T-Mobile 8320 and then have it unlocked.

I am not talking about switching to T-Mobile. I mean you can purchase an 8320 (which T-Mobile sells) and have it unlocked so it will work on AT&T's network.

Lightbulb Question Regarding....

I got a question....
Could he load T-Mobile OS update software in his Curve on to his AT&T phone
(if it is unlocked) and use WiFi?

I believe so. It doesn't HAVE to be a T-Mobile-released OS in order to use WiFi, I don't believe. RIM releases the OS updates and then the carriers decide whether they will release them. So any 8320 OS loaded should still provide the WiFi functionality.

I know our phones do not have the hardware to do 3G, but does ATT have 3G up and running for when there are 3G phones?

I undersand the BB9000 will be 3G and it is not that far away from becomming real! A Canadian friend has seen one and says it is no joke and will be introduced after the first of the year. I know it has no keyboard and most would not be interested but 3G would/could then spill over to our devices!

If you are asking can you load 8320 software onto an 8300 and suddenly get WiFi, then no. You can not load software for one model onto another.

Oh, thanks for stating that. Now that I read that person's question again I think that IS what he was asking. I thought he was still talking about the unlocked 8320 we were talking about in previous posts.

Like stated about...an 8320 must have 8320 firmware loaded onto it -- whatever provider it's from...you cannot simply put 8310 firmware onto it..

However, its not that hard to use w/e theme you want on a Tmo software 8320

Dont jump to buy the 8320---I saw a video that showed Edge actually beating it when loading certain sites. It appears as if the 8320 hardware can't really handle the increase in speed. If anyone has had a different experience, please tell us about it.

see this really bugs me when people use this STUPID video to compare. the wifi on the 8320 is almost dependent on os4.3 for it to run smoother and faster. wait until 4.3 is released to make these statments

Ah, wait until a new operating system is released and then you will see! How do you know? By the way, what is stupid about the video. It seemed rather straightforward to me. By the way, are you admitting that there isn't a big difference in speeds presently?

If you mean EDGE loading faster than WiFi I havent seen it on my 8320.
When I am on WiFi I get great fast downloads of pages.

It never fails, I waited forever to finally get a BB that has everything the 8320 and lo and behold, next year we get the iPhone of the BBs version, lol.
Technology awesomely sucks, fpr my wallet, lol.
