I updated my BB and after that i lost the ability to press on speed dial 1 for voice mail....( ! invalid phone number)
I have to hit the menu button and select call voice mail.
Any ideas?

Make sure you haven't disabled dialing from screen....can you begin to dial numbers from the main screen to make a call? If so, then Go to the phone list. Hit the menu key and select "View Speed Dial List." Scroll down to the W key and delete the entry (even if it's blank). Remove the battery while the device is on. The speed dial should restore itself.

FYI I have the 8830 w/Verizon 4.2 and have the dial from home screen disable but I'm still able to press 1 for vm.

just check your speed dial list, and set your phone number as the W or 1 key. when you call your own phone number, it will go to voicemail automatically.

yeah but the issue was that when i did it before it would automatically wait 3 secs and then put in my VM password.....how do i fix that?
And yes i can dial from the screen,.

you can set a pause -- in the edit speed dial menu when you are inputting the phone number, push B, (think thats a 2 sec pause), then your password.

so your speed dial intry might look like this: 444-444-4444 W 1234.

If you're still having problems, check the entry in the address book called Voicemail, and make sure the number is correct there. For instance, on the VZW 8830, the correct number is *86 (*VM). Other than that, as long as you have the W Speed Dial set to the Voicemail address entry, I think you're set.
