Default Yahoo Update for Curve?

Please Login to Remove!

I just upgraded to a T-Mobile Curve. I went to go download the Yahoo Messenger that is the latest and the device crashes. and will not show Yahoo in the icon form or allow me to open the app. But the app is listed as installed. Any ideas?

Wasn't a Yahoo app already installed on the Curve?

It wasn't the newest version. I installed the upgraded one and now it won't load or show the icon.

It probably was the newest version for the 8320. The one you downloaded may not ever work (if it's like other apps for the BB.) You'll need to reinstall the version that came with the OS. You'll have to install desktop manager and install the handheld OS to your PC and load it back that way.

I'm not saying that's the issue for sure. I just know that there are some BB apps that must be installed using the OS installation package and desktop Manager. BBMessenger is one. If you delete BBMessenger off of a 4.2 OS device and then try and download from the BB website it will not work. It will install but never show an icon. It's just not a compatible version of the app. It has to be installed via the OS package through desktop Manager. It's *possible* that the Yahoo app is the same. Those IM apps for the TMo Curve are pretty new.

by any chance, did you happen to plug your device in desktop manager>application loader after you downloaded the new yahoo OTA?

This happened to me the other day as I was restoring my curve. It comes with yahoo but not the newest version (through t-mobile). I downloaded it, then had to go back to application loader to make some changes. Because of the new yahoo version was not recognized, it wanted to "updated" yahoo messenger by removing a file that was "not recognized" which was a .cad file or something for blackberry. There was no way around it, either go through with removing that file or completely remove yahoo.

So I just went ahead and let DM "update" yahoo by removing that file, (yahoo icon was gone, but still listed) and I just went in and re-downloaded it again. No problems. I didn't completely remove yahoo cause I'm anal about doing the profiles and settings again.

I suggest you completely remove yahoo and downloaded it again fresh if you run into any problems.

But that what your problem sounds like.

I just restored back to the old version that came with the Curve in the T-Mobile Software.

yes three times, cause I had to replace mine recently.

The last time I downloaded it was maybe less than 2 weeks ago.

I managed to update my 8320 with an over the air download as well. However I haven't noticed any changes. Works the same before and after as near as I can tell although I rarely login on the phone.

When I got my 8320....October-ish.... I upgraded the YM that came with it to the one I got from the BB mobile site... mobile.blackberry.com. I had no problems.

I did it again over the weekend. I was running OS .174 I think....I upgraded it to .180 form the tmobile site. It reset it to the old one, but I again downloaded and upgraded to the no one with no problems. If I go to Settings - Advanced Options - Applications it shows I have Yahoo! Messenger 2.0.38

i use Yahoo all the time to talk to one of my daughters and some friends. Works fine for me.

Sorry I can't be of more help... but it did install and works fine for me. Maybe someone else can take that and give suggestions.

After downgrading, I was able to re-download the new version from the site. Got me on what caused the issue. Now I just need to get Missing Sync to see my iCal......
