I get this message when connecting my 8830 to my XP SP2 machine. Anyone know why this would suddenly happen? It has connected successfully for a few months now and this just started today. I tried wiping the device and installing the USB driver provided with Desktop Manager manually. Neither worked.

TIA.

When you wiped the device, what did you do? Normally a simple battery pull and reset on the BB will fix that type of issue.

I had already tried that - as for wiping, I just went to options - security options - general options and chose "wipe device". I had it remove everything from the unit. That did not fix it nor did the battery pull...

That security options "wipe" does nothing but remove any personal information on the device (email, contacts, messages, calendar items, etc), and does nothing to "wipe" it of any Operating System errors.

To do that, you will need to do a JL_cmder wipe and reload the OS fresh to the device.

Also, on your battery pull on the BB, did you do so with the BB remaining powered ON, or did you turn it off, then pull the battery? Pull the battery while it is powered on.
Finally, you mentioned to installed the USB drivers to the PC, but have you tried completely installing Desktop Manager? I would load version 4.2, Service Pack 2, without the Roxio media software.

Mine started doing that on my work computer a few weeks ago. I had to install DM / BB drivers for it to recognize the device. Not sure why it suddenly stopped working on XP?

I get this same error with my 8100 every once in a while.
I find it happens more if it connected as a mass storage device and I forget to properly disconect my BB using the USB mass storage "wizard" inXP.

Everytime this has happened rebooting the Windows PC fixes it.
