Apologies if this has been covered, but I looked in the FAQ and could not find the answer.
Is it possible to use UMA without a BlackBerry data plan? That is, if I give my 8320 to my wife and she just wants to use it as a phone over WiFi/UMA, will that work, or does she need the BB data plan...?
No -- not data and mail. I want to give my BlackBerry to my wife so she can just use it as a phone. She uses UMA already with the Nokia phone from T-Mobile.
I can also confirm that you can use UMA to make calls without the data plan. I got this phone partly because I have marginal TMo coverage in my home, so using WiFi/UMA allows me make calls anywhere in the house. So far, I've had no issues with holding on to my connections.
