Default Got the VZW 8130 (Pearl) but Gmail application crashes

Please Login to Remove!

I can't seem to get Gmail to work properly and it will crash and hang when I try to open up emails. It just crashes when I open up a message and then it says 'Application terminated. Gmail "Phone" access is denied.' Looking up on Google I don't see any errors. I don't have any other apps installed. I am a BES user if that makes a difference. It will also crash sometimes if I've opened an email and then left the phone and come back I'll get the error so its not like I'm triggering it. Its working behind the scenes. There are 3 options in Gmail however I don't think any of those would have anything to do with it. Anyone have any ideas? Its really frustrating that it freezes and I have to pull out the battery. This never happened on my 8830. What gives? Is it possibly something Java related? I'm out of ideas.

So it sounds like some others are having issues with the Gmail app? Yeah the only way to fix it is to pull out the battery and its very annoying. It happens sometimes when I try to open a message. I don't think it can be data related but maybe software. Someone must know

Wirelessly posted (t-mobile pearl: BlackBerry8703e/4.1.0 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/104)

It sounds almost like a permissions error. Have you checked the permissions of the application?

Hey I think you're right. I set them all to 'Allow' as far as data goes. Hopefully that works!

Well my Gmail app froze once again and I had to pull the battery so I take it did a full reset. Maybe I had to do that to begin with but I'm hoping there are no more problems. I opened up a few emails this morning and it didn't freeze and hasn't crashed just yet. Lately it seems like when I go to Open a message though thats when it crashes. I'll keep everyone up to date.

Bear in mind that OS 4.3 on the 8130 is a brand new OS and many of the developers haven't had a chance to test their apps on it. It will take a while for those apps to be updated. It's just the downside of being on the cutting edge.

Has there been any fix for this? My Gmail app seems to freeze often too.

If I go to open a new message, I click the trackball and the main menu comes up. After that I click "open message" and the app freezes. Cant do anything. Can't exit. Can't switch apps. Only choice is to pull battery. It doesn't do this every time, but i'd say at least 20% of the time. It's very annoying.

Thanks.

Yes there is in fact. Ever since I downloaded the latest version of the Gmail app it seems to work fine. I believe there was a release around Christmas time or so. Since then no crashes!

I also like the addition of the icon changing when there's a new email. I never got that before and can now set new notifying ringers when I get a new email separate from my BES mailbox. Definitely happy with this.

Thanks! I just downloaded the new app... (http://www.gmail.com/app).

I like that they made pressing the trackball open a message instead of bringing up a menu!

Hi, I see the notification profile options, but I don't see the option for the icon changing for new emails. Is it supposed to change color or something? I sent myself a test email, and the icon does not change at all.

Thanks.

Edit: Although when I hover over the GMAIL icon, it says Gmail (1). Is that what you were referring to?

Nevermind, it's working now. It just took a little while to kick in I guess. An asterisk shows up over the gmail icon when there are new emails.
