Gentlemen,
I have used my 8320 for making international calls (have made sure i have turned OFF the mobile network option each time).

Somewhere on this forum i recall seeing that calls made via data/wifi dont get charged but ive just been slammed with a huge bill (under category of toll!).

ANy advice would be gratefully accepted.

If you were overseas and called an overseas number you will get billed. If you called a US number the calls shouldn't have been billed.

For example, if you're in London and you have UMA and make a call to New York that call will be free (under your plan.) If you're in London and make a call to London (normally would be a local call) you will be charged for a long distance, international call.

Also, you profile says 7100i and Sprint. Did you change to the 8320 and TMobile?

apologies for not updating my profile.These are calls i made from US to other countries. The mobile network was turned off each time. So im confused. Ive the tmobile hotspot @home router and plan. many thanks for your prompt reply

Calls from US to other countries will have an international toll. That's not included in the H@H plan. You're SOL. You may have some luck begging and pleading and being very nice to a CSR on the phone and explaining how you screwed up. That's about all you can do at this point.

Yes be very nice and kind and explain that it was an honest misunderstanding of how the plan works they may credit it all back to you or partial credit

Ever notice when you're on UMA that it says "T-mobile - Yourwifinetwork" at the top of the screen? You are still calling via TMobile. You're just using wifi for the connection to the system, not the local cell tower.

thats the funny thing.it doesnt always say so.sometimes it just gives me the cell router name.

It will say that if you don't have UMA and you have the mobile network off.

You can't even make calls with that scenario, but you can send/receive email and get data.

Keep in mind that UMA or HotSpot @Home is simply another way of accessing the T-Mobile cell network. As John said instead of using a cell tower you are using the Internet for that connection.
