Yep. Went back to 2.0.1 and the lag is gone.

Default Anyone have Luck Running 2.0.2?

Anybody have any luck with 2.0.2? Doesn't sound good as the experts are dumping it for 2.0.1. I searched around and could find no discusion on what the "improvements" are for the new version.

I am really impatient so I didn't search all 8 pages of this thread so I am sorry if it has been answered previously. I can't get this app to get any closer than 5000 meters to my current location. Any thoughts? I have pressed "0" like Google says but nothing. Am I able to enable GPS?

If the device cannot aquire a GPS/satellite signal, then it will use cell tower triangulation. Which can be a smidge off.

GPS is disabled on Verizon devices for all applications except for VZNavigator. You won't get GPS in Google Maps on a Verizon device. Sorry. You can purchase a bluetooth GPS receiver and use that, however.

As noted, you need to get a BT GPS device if you're want to use mapping programs w/your Pearl.

If you do get one, I highly recommend the Freedom 2000 GPS keychain puck...

Tried 2.0.2 on my 8320 and it was also terribly laggy, rolling back to 2.0.1 now.

Is google maps not able to use the internal GPS in an 8703e?

Mine seems to be using the towers (your location within 1800 feet!) no matter what, yet I get an exact pinpoint in BBmaps and Mapquest navigator - both of which I would uninstall in seconds if google maps could use the internal GPS properly.

Apparently, I have been using it with BBmaps for several months and can get my exact cordialities using coordinates navigator.

Yes, the 8703e has GPS (unless it's a Verizon model.)

Should we rename this thread Google Maps 2.0.1 again???

It's Sprint, anyway, I am wondering if anyone else with a 8703e has been able to get it to work with the internal GPS, all I get is the tower triangulation, which is fairly close but nothing like BBmaps (which is so good I can see on the screen that I am in my driveway as opposed to the street!).

I would love to have the accuracy of BBmaps with the features of google maps.

My next step is just to remove the application from my blackberry altogether.
I had the exact same problem.

(1) you could switch app by pressing ALT-escape (escape is next to the red hangup button). So it's not exactly frozen.

(2) These methods did not fix my problems:
. change application permissions
. uninstall, pull battery, and reinstall
. backup, wipe handheld, and reinstall

(3) I called in to T-mobile and tell them the problem. The CS rep said something is messed up on my account. He fixed it and sent me some service books. After that, my GMM started to work. And Yahoo Go. And Windows Live messenger.

(I subscribe to the full data service, obviously.)

Good luck!

Seems to me that "The official BBF Google Maps Thread" might make more sense.

Default Great Info

I had 2.0.2 on my pearl and it was sluggish, just thought it was the My Location stuff, I just downgraded back to 2.0.1 just by going to the GMM download site. It asked to replace 2.0.2 with 2.0.1 and wanted to reboot for the change to take effect. I rebooted, now it asked to make a connection to Google but it won't run, shows it is running but I can't use the app. I am pulling the battery this time and see if it works now.

Now it works. WOW did this make a huge difference. It is much more responsive. Thanks for the info guy, or gals.
