I've had my 8820 since Monday, and at least 7-8 times it has gone completely black and requires removal/reinsertion of the battery to come back alive.

Do I have a bum device or is this something that others are experiencing?

I've experienced this on my 8830 after about 72-96 hours of heavy use, but I use mine predominantly for the data service like Yahoo IM, BB Messenger, SMS, Web service, BIS email (3 accounts, not heavy on email use). It generally fails when I try to send out data like an IM using Yahoo, I have found that if I hard reset the phone about once every 48-72 hours this won't happen.

Just my two cents, but I think there is an underlying problem that is already identified and your carrier can help you remedy the issue with the BB Knowledgebase. I have no idea what it is, but it doesn't impact the way I use it so I'm not truly concerned.

Nothing will power the device on other than removing the battery and reinstalling.

I swapped out the device with my IS guys. The new one is smoooooth sailing (knock on wood)

When you say reset every 48-72 hours, do you just mean power off and back on again, or something else?

He means pull the battery at lease every other day. Just like rebooting a computer.

Their is just something about yanking a battery out of a working BB that seems to make things go right.

It cures a lot of evils.
