Default Keep it and keep it unread from IT.

I'm running BES 4.1.2.25 and looking to make a custom policy.

Our sales team has a bad habit of reading (or not) emails from IT that require an action to be taken on their laptop. They read the email on the handheld and then either forget or ignore the instructions. What I would like to accomplish is forcing emails sent from IT to be always unread and undeletable from the handheld. Then I can be sure they have at least clicked on the email in Outlook on their laptop.

Would this take a User Defined Item? If so are there any good resources out there for a beginner?

Thanks

I don't think such a thing is possible.
Users often ignore IT. It's a fact of life that most experienced IT people learn to accept and live with.

I've always found the best way to deal with being ignored is to simply escalate the request up the food chain and start notifying supervisors, or supervisors of those supervisors.
Someone will eventually listen.

I'm very used to Sales Reps ignoring actionable emails from IT. All I am trying to accomplish is helping those that forget. The ones that ignore emails till they can't VPN in will continue to ignore emails.

So if I can't get exactly what I want, how about filtering and alternate address? Seems like that might help some.

As appealing as that might be, you can't make them read something if they don't want to read it or don't feel it's important. I usually make sure I send out whatever they need to know via email, notify our Helpdesk of the same thing. If they complain about 'not knowing' I just forward my email to them.

I'd prefer to send a jolt of electricity thru their devices to get their attention. A nice 'taser' application, perhaps

Assign an IT Policy that automatically locks their device after a minute whether there is activity or no activity ... then they'll call you and you can talk to them.

Other than that, the only other option would be to set their device owner information to be an informative message ... that they'll see every time they go to unlock their device.

HEY! That's a fantastic idea (seriously). But what happens if they already have an owner message set.... when you revert back to not forcing the owner message set via IT Policy, does it revert back to whatever they were using?

Oh, wait, we're talking about RIM.....

It's still a good idea.....

Could use a 'default' signature of "Reward if found, contact XYZ company at 555-1212" when not trying to send them an important message.

That's actually what mine says. Having some experience with a disappearing device and a password policy set ... I know my device is secure to a certain degree and one can only hope the person that finds the device is honest and will call the number displayed.

i've found sending email from the CEO's mailbox is an effective way of getting IT messages.

I mean if the CEO is going to tell you to delete a printer, you might actually do it, right?

Well depending on the change / update I draft an email and send it at least 3 times the last having a subject similar:

!!!!!!! Warning - Last Communication !!!!!!

By then help desk, support areas are aware of the change / update. You always have the people who choose to ignore the message till things don't work (hence the Exchange System messages about mailbox size). All you can do is plan and notify.

Why don't you create a script/application for performing the required action. Push it to the machine (i'm assumming that the machines are required to connect to your network at some point) and schedule it to run. Give the user the option to delay running the action like 3 times and and force it to run on the 4th.

Or, you can create a global filter to not send the emails from IT to the handhelds.

why not create a calendar event or a meeting invite with the message? then you can set reminders or reccurances every 5 minutes until you see it as done if you want. or change their owner information to say "If found, please bring resume to the IT department, we are in need of new sales associates"

When we have important announcements for users we use a browser push channel message. A user will notice when a channel push has been shoved out to their device and they are like toddlers in the fact that they can't help themselves from clicking on something bright and shiny. It has been the only way to effectively get some of our users to read these important notices. There is a bit more work on the backend to get this done but it has increased our notice to our employees by 100%

You could also put reminders on the emails as well
