Default Creating a recurring task on BB

Please Login to Remove!

This is driving me insane guys - I've searched the web like a madman and even on this forum. I just want to be able to create a recurring task (no due date basically forever) that generates a reminder every day. Does anyone know of any tutorials or links that have specific info on this. I greatly appreciate it. Take care fellas.

I know the calendar function does this but I want to do this on the Tasks function

You can't--in the Task application.

You can--in the Calendar application. Just create a recurring appointment.

Nope. There's a due date but that has nothing to do with recurrence.

Why can you not use a recurring calendar entry?

I use the recurring calendar event for many items, reminders, like a monthly heartworm pill for the dog, etc.

i agree with whats posted above. Just use a recurring calendar event. If you never want to mark completion, then there is no reason to use a task at all. I have dozens of recurring events on mine, heartworm pill for the dog is also one of them for me. Everything from oil changes to doctor appointments to dog care.

I see that now in the updated OS versions, recurring tasks daily, weekly, monthly, etc. are possible.

Very nice! New to me.

If you make a task, choose due: by date. Then you can choose Recurrence by Daily, Weekly, Monthly or Yearly.

At least it works that way on my Pearl.

The problem I have with it, is sometimes, it doesn't seem to work right for me and I am not sure why. It seems to skip once in a while or just quit.

I was curious, so I just now looked at my Curve (4.2.2.170) and it will also let me choose a recurring interval for my task if I select a due date.

OK, so you are able to create the recurring task... Good. I thought from your post above, you could not.

I had not even noticed the upgraded Task features, been using the Calendar for this as mentioned earlier. I'll use it and see what flakiness you speak of.

I will detail my problems with this task function which may help others. I have outlook 2007 and a Blackberry Pearl 8100 (AT&T). I am on a BES. If I create reoccurring tasks in my outlook. Example, "Turn in Monthly Expenses" set to last Friday of every Month. Everything appears fine on both my outlook and blackberry until you try to change something.

If I try to mark it complete on my blackberry within the task it says, "can not mark complete because task reoccurs".

If I mark it complete outside the task, it marks complete but in outlook it stays with a line through it even if i have "hide completed" on.

If for some reason I cant do it on that Friday and move it to Monday everything appears fine but it is really changing every future occurrence to that Monday not just the single occurrence. note: for outlook users you are familiar with the ability to change the current occurrence without modifying future ones.

I like to follow the a task is a task using due dates and a calendar appointment is an appointment but basically this throws a wrench into that plan. I have to now create reoccurs in the calendar.

this is what I have noticed......

This is similar to the problem I seem to be having. I have a reoccurring daily reminder in outlook to "take medicine". When it pops up in outlook I can "snooze" and choose how long or "mark complete". Once I mark complete the next day I get the task reminder again like one would expect. In my BB 8820 (sync w/ outlook) I mark complete and I never receive another reminder until I redo the task in outlook. Should I hit dismiss on the blackberry instead. Both windows mobile and palm (i've had in the past) seem to have no problem emulating this, but BB seems like there is some kind of setting I have to figure out. AND before one of you geniuses out there say "go back to windows mobile or Palm" that is why I'm trying BB out. So far I love everything but the this task glitch.

I think you want to use the CALENDAR application and enter it there as RECURRING DAILY.

There are also some 3rd party apps for ALARMS but I think Calendar does it (unless it coincides with another calendar item)

Yeah, it seems as though that is the best work around. I might be able to live with that. It might be something OCD about myself but something bothers me about having events in the calender that are like 1 minute long. I'll get over though.
