When the new OS is officially released will it be an automatic ota update? Or will we have to call our carrier (vzw for me) and ask them to update our software?

Not OTA, sorry.

You will download it from whichever carrier you desire. You won't need to call them.

Probably download it from the VZW site and install it that way. Just like any other OS upgrade.

Its good to see its progressing nicely and I do NOT install beta OS's ever since I do not want to buy a new device if it get hosed.

I will say as a Moderator on another popular Tech Forum that the disparaging and inflammatory posts on page 1 IMHO should be removed. They do not offer any value to the thread and only serve as a reminder of the low value the member has. This of course is my opinion and can be taken however the mods see fit.

I've heard of no betas of 4.5 for CDMA devices.

It will likely come quite a bit later for the CDMA devices. I wouldn't hold your breath. It took a long time for 4.2 to come to CDMA 8700's.

Just found when trying to use youtube it crashes...but all other things are fine....so far

i have 8820 and also installed 4.5 for 8800 and it doesn't update the OS at all...I guess each model (ie, 8820) has a version of 4.5 for itself...so don't waste your time...

That's correct. You can't load an 8820 OS on an 8800 or vice versa...etc.
