Question BES 4.0 - MDS - Overlapping I/O in progress

Please Login to Remove!

I cannot start the MDS service. This is a brand new install of BES 4.0 with SQL and Exchange 2003. When I try to start the Blackberry Mobile Data Service I get an error saying - Could not start the blackberry Mobile Data Service on Local Computer Error 997: Overlapped I/O operation in progress. Any suggestions?

Looks to be something to do with the JVM not being installed, or being installed incorrectly (perhaps two versions installed at the same time).

Have a look at this KB on the BlackBerry.com site...

Does it have to be a specific version of java? I had 1.3. Unistalled checked the Java site and downloaded the current 5.4.

Ok .. I installed the 1.4.02 ... version of java that was on the BES CD and now the service starts but i cant access the internet from blackberry. I restarted the service hoping it would clear up the problem but I get the folowing message ... Unable to connect to the selected Mobile Data Service, please try again later. If the problem persists please contact your admin. Any ideas. I set the MDS service up with my proxy address.

Tried typing in address msn.com and I get HTTP error 503: Service Unavailable

Make sure that Mobile Data Server is enabled at the server and the user level from the BES Management console.

You can browse to http://localhost:8080 to bring up the MDS statistics page. It gives some connectivity information which shows if MDS is successfully connected to the BES service.

If everything checks out take a look at the MDS logs (MDAT).

Thanks for the help ... I installed correct version of Java ... and went to the MDS stats page where it told me it was having problems connecting to the database. MDS service was using a local system account instead of the BES login for my SQL server. I have it up and running now.
